The gradual reopening of European borders began on 15 June 2020, and in support this the European Commission has launched the online platform Re-open EU to help ensure the safe resumption of travel and tourism across Europe amid of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Travellers can use the online platform to access real-time information about borders and the availability of transport and tourism services in the Member States.

The Re-open EU platform contains information provided by the different Member States on travel restrictions, public health and safety measures, as well as other useful information such as available tourist offers in their countries.

The platform is part of the Commission’s Tourism and Transport Package, which was launched on 13 May 2020 with the aim of restoring confidence among EU travellers and supporting the resumption of European tourism safely and in compliance with necessary health precautions.

It also contains information on voucher sponsorship, which allows travellers to support their favourite hotels or restaurants by purchasing accommodation or meal vouchers for a future stay once these establishments reopen. Voucher sponsorship helps businesses overcome cash blockages, with services to be provided later. The amount paid by the customer will go directly to the service provider.

Regarding those intending to travel to Romania as tourists from an EU country or from Norway, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein, as well as those transiting the country, as of 15 June 2020 anyone arriving from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary are not required to undergo 14 days of isolation if they show no symptoms of infection with the virus.

For people from other countries, the 14-day quarantine/self-isolation measures remain in force.

Finally, flights to the following countries remain suspended: Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Turkey and Iran.
